The Crown Colony of British Columbia was signed into existence at Fort Langley in 1858.
Downtown Langley is home to over 600 shops and restaurants - 150 more than BC's largest shopping centre.
In 1858 Fort Langley achieved world fame as the starting point for the Fraser River gold fields.
With international interest in the region growing the British quickly moved to proclaim the Crown Colony of British Columbia. The "Big House" at Fort Langley provided the background for this official ceremony. 150 years later the walls of this historic fur trading post still stand as a reminder of Langley’s proud heritage.
Visit the Fort Langley National Historic Site, the place where it all began and watch as costumed interpreters demonstrate the pioneer way of life. Explore the multi-cultural influences that shaped Langley into the community it is today at the many museums and galleries.
