The Whitecaps FC 2 played their first of three matches in Langley this past weekend, and if the first game is any indication, the next two will be must see events for local soccer fans! Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) is the second team for the Vancouver Whitecaps of the MLS. WFC2 play in the United Soccer League, which acts as a development league for the MLS.
The final score was 3-1 in favour of the home team Whitecaps. This was an important game for the team as they now move to the top of the conference. The Whitecaps were down 1-0 after the first half, but Whitecaps forward Thomas Sanner scored three goals in the final 20 minutes to win the game!
There were several activities to keep busy with before the game and at half time, including face painting, balloon animals, and a bean bag toss for the kids as well as a selection of local craft beer and two BBQ food trucks for the adults.
It was a fun, family friendly time in the grandstands full of people of all ages and soccer experience taking in the action. The support for the home team was loud after each Whitecaps goal. The warm sunshine combined with a slight breeze made for a perfect day to watch soccer! Adding to the action was the constant stream of small aircraft approaching and landing at the Langley Regional Airport along with beautiful views of the Fraser Valley in the background.
