Is it really December already? With December comes lots of local holiday excitement – and we’ve made your planning easy by picking out just a few of our family favourites in this list of Top 5 Christmas and Holiday Events here in Langley.
In my opinion, the first true sign of autumn is not fallen leaves, nor crisp cool days, but the annual Fort Langley Cranberry Festival! As always, the popular event falls on the Saturday of the Thanksgiving long-weekend. This year marks the 19th annual Fort Langley Cranberry Festival taking place on October 11th 2014. This one day festival in Fort Langley celebrates the harvest of these tart little berries. Cranberries are a major commercial crop in Fort Langley, and BC as a whole produces more than 5,800 acres of these little red gems. A good portion of them are destined for Ocean Spray to be turned into various cranberry products, while some stay right here in our community and are turned into delicious wine, chocolate covered treats, syrups, and more!
It’s official, the sun is setting on summer. The leaves are becoming a colourful mix of reds, yellows and oranges. You can feel it in the air, and you can even smell it. There’s a crispness in the morning that hasn’t been felt in months. The grass is dewy, or even frosty. There’s much more night time and darkness than there was even a month ago. It’s here – the season of all things pumpkin-spiced. So take out the umbrella, unearth the rain boots, and put on your coat. Fall is here! While we all lament the passing of another gloriously hot and beautiful summer in the Valley, there is still so much to look forward to this fall. We hope you’ll take the time to appreciate the beauty of autumn in Langley and to get excited for the abundance of activities that fall brings. So rather than sit around waiting for next summer, let’s welcome autumn in Langley with open arms!
“Our motto of “Everyone Wins” refers to all the participants, volunteers, spectators, sponsors, businesses and local residents who will benefit from the staging of this year’s competition. With possibly the most significant “win” being the motivation and admiration we all experience watching the many physically active and socially engaged seniors in action making these years the best years of their life.”

This long weekend the annual Brigade Days festival will be taking place at Fort Langley National Historic Site, August 1st-4th. Period re-enactors from all over British Columbia and Washington will convene for four days of 1800s living, live music and the exciting Arrival of the Fur Brigades on the Fraser River.
This weekend is one I have really been looking forward to! This year, Langley’s International Festival is presenting Canada Day and, it will be at a new location. From June 28th to July 1st Willoughby Community Park is going to be bustling with people, entertainment, sports, games, food and more, for this big celebration!
On Sunday, May 11th we celebrate our mothers. The ones who gave us life, raised us, and continue to give us their unconditional support. We honour them, motherhood, our maternal bonds, and celebrate on this day by treating them to something special.
Have you heard the big news? Langley has been named the eighth most romantic city in all of Canada! Ooh-la-la!
Two weeks ago, Amazon.ca revealed the ranking, which was also shared in our local newspaper. This is exciting stuff and such a tremendous honour. If the ranking comes as a shock to you — that’s okay. When you’ve spent most of your life living in the same town, it can be easy to take all its quirks and charms for granted.
