Many of you have been a part of the Look at Langley 'Visitor in Your Own Town Program' through the summer to end of October and have had a great opportunity explore all there is to see and do in Langley. This program was so popular that we have decided to continue in a little bit of a different format.
Tourism Langley has been out and about spreading the word on our community and it seems that people were pretty excited to know what's going on here.
This new format of our newsletter will be sent out monthly and will include interesting stories, calendar of events, and of course a coupon for you to print off and use within that month.
We hope that you enjoy this format and of course head out to Langley and enjoy our endless choices!

On a very rainy 19th of November 1858 James Douglas came from Vancouver's Island on board the 'Beaver' up the Fraser to Fort Langley and (to make a long story short) walked up the hill to the Big House and declared British Columbia a Province from the 'hanging judge' Mathew Begbie. Thus James Douglas became our first Governor.
Saturday, November 21st visit Fort Langley National Historic Site at 10:30am where the start of the Grand Parade. Led by the swirl of bagpipes the 1858 style parade made up of horse-drawn carriages, costumed riders and pioneers, penny farthing cycles, dancers, pipers and fiddlers, finishing with a vintage Mr.S.Claus and happy children back at the Fort where admission is free for the day.
Join around the bonfire and listen to the Kwantlen First Nations drummers, historic re-enactments of the Proclimation, black powder display by the powder blue clad 'Voltageures', Scottish Country Dancers and more.
Come celebrate the Spirit of British Columbia in the Birthplace of British Columbia!

It’s been a busy few weeks at the Greater Vancouver Zoo, both the Giraffe and Moose family’s have welcomed new arrivals.
On Sunday October 18th Giraffe Mama Eleah gave birth to a 1.8 meter (6 feet) tall, 58 kg (129 lbs) baby girl. Baby is doing great and is ready for visitors, you can view her through the windows of the Giraffe House.
Go by for a visit while she is so small… Giraffes can reach a height of 4.5 meters (15 feet) and up to 1000 kg (2200 lbs)!

The Greater Vancouver Zoo is a great adoptive family, many of the animals who live there have been orphaned and taken in by the great people there.
Two wild orphan moose were born during the last week of May near Anchorage Alaska and were found soon after being separated from their Moms. After it was determined that they could not be released back into the wild the Alaska State Government called to see if the Zoo was interested in providing a good home for the little (15 kg / 33 lb) guys, they gladly agreed!

After being kept in quarantine for just over a month and being bottle fed, they have now gained about 50 kg (110 lbs) and are temporarily living in an enclosure near to the North American Wild’s bus station. When they are big enough they will be introduced to the adult female moose.
Print off this coupon and stop by the Greater Vancouver Zoo and say hello to their new friends!
