Spring Gardening Tips

Categories: Agritourism, Shopping & Services

The sun is shining (okay it comes and goes), the birds are out, and everyone seems a lot more chipper these days. Spring is upon us, which means for many, it’s time to start prepping and planting our gardens. If you’re new to horticulture, and not sure where to begin, there are a number of great nurseries and farm markets in Langley where questions are encouraged, and classes are offered. Cedar Rim Nursery is situated on 45 acres with an additional 100 acres in production, making them the largest retail nursery in British Columbia. Besides offering classes and seminars for gardeners of all ages, their website also hosts a plethora of helpful hints when it comes to creating your ideal garden landscaping, or small space balcony greenhouse.

5 Reasons Why Langley is one of Canada’s Most Romantic Cities

Categories: Activities & Recreation, Itineraries, Shopping & Services, Wine & Food

Have you heard the big news? Langley has been named the eighth most romantic city in all of Canada!  Ooh-la-la!

Two weeks ago, Amazon.ca revealed the ranking, which was also shared in our local newspaper. This is exciting stuff and such a tremendous honour. If the ranking comes as a shock to you — that’s okay. When you’ve spent most of your life living in the same town, it can be easy to take all its quirks and charms for granted.

The Month of Love

For the last couple of days, my favorite music station has been playing some of the greatest love songs, and I have to admit, many of them are taking me way back to places and people that have touched my heart in more ways than one.  Some songs find me turning up the dial, singing at the top of my lungs, while others render me speechless and I’m lost in a few moments of time.   At first I wondered if the station had a change in programming, and then it dawned on me – it’s February – the month of romance and love!  Ah, Celine and “The Power of Love” – you get me every time.

Flower Haute Couture

Christmas cheer is in my blood.  As a matter of fact, I often feel that I must be a distant relative of Mrs. Klaus.  Around this time of year, my dreams are full of red and white.  My hair is dusted with so much gold glitter that I leave a trail of sparkling specs wherever I go.  You will most likely find me running around the greenhouse with a bright sparkle stuck to the end of my nose, a box of bright metallic cellophane sheets tucked under one arm and curly ting ting bunches under the other.  During the months of November and December my calling in life is to spread the joy of the season from house to house, one beautiful poinsettia at a time!

Fall Markets & Fairs

Categories: Agritourism, Shopping & Services, Wine & Food

Many of us get through the chilly fall season by looking forward to the upcoming holidays, but what is it that gets you into the spirit? For me it’s attending a local market or holiday craft fair. If you think that farmer’s markets are a seasonal event, think again. Many of Langley’s well known markets are re-opening for the holiday season and are bringing you fresh local products all winter long. So this year remember to shop local, visit a hand-made craft fair for those special holiday gifts you’re looking for, and purchase your produce, soups and yummy baked goods to warm your insides at one of the below local markets taking place throughout the community.

June is here, the sun in shining (okay well it was), markets are open, and our local berries are ripe for the picking! This means that Langley’s Circle Farm Tour is in full swing! All stops on the 2013 tour are now open for business which means that you can finally head out to the berry farms and pick that juicy ripe fruit directly from the fields. Strawberries have arrived, and it’s only time before the rest of our favourite local berries can be picked up, farm fresh.
