Resolve to Make like a Tourist – In your own Town!

Categories: Activities & Recreation, Agritourism, Heritage & Culture, Shopping & Services, Wine & Food

Starting tomorrow you’ll have to start remembering to date things 2015 instead of 2014. With a new year, comes new resolutions, new goals, and new schedules. If you’re anything like me, you probably want to set some new year’s resolutions for yourself, but aren’t quite sure where to start. In my experience, setting big grandiose resolutions are great, but the smaller, more realistic ones tend to be much easier to keep and are often much more satisfying in the end.

‘Tis the Season to Shop Local

Categories: Agritourism, Heritage & Culture, Shopping & Services

Have you picked out your tree, loaded up on eggnog, and bought all your presents for friends and family? Do you have your house decorated and are the stockings hung by the chimney with care?

Well done! We wish we could be more like you. But alas, we’re usually the ones running around at the last minute, frantically trying to find the most perfect gifts, while also tearing our hair out. We’re probably not the only ones, either. Right? Christmas shopping can be incredibly stressful.

Finding the Perfect Christmas Tree in Langley

Category: Shopping & Services

For those of us who celebrate Christmas, it doesn’t matter how much mulled wine we pour or how many wreaths we hang on the door, it’s not really Christmas until we’ve picked out the perfect tree.

So what makes a perfect tree? The perfect tree is the one with the perfect shape, the perfect smell of needles and winter, and is the perfect size to hold tinsel, baubles and lights. The perfect tree is the one you choose with your family or friends, and the one that signals to every person walking past your living room window that Christmas has arrived at your home.

Milner Village Winter Market

Categories: Agritourism, Shopping & Services

Milner Market is a farmers market first. But it’s also a craft fair, a jewellery shop, an organic health and beauty show, a wine and cheese tasting barn, a fashion mecca and a one stop Christmas décor store,” says Evelyne Mikusch, Executive Director at Milner Village Winter Market.  “The community comes together around a devotion to local food. Home grown and family produced preserves, seeds, spices, herbs, teas, coffees, berries, nuts, cereals, grains and honey aren’t available anywhere else.” Mikusch says.

A One Stop Wine Shop

Categories: Shopping & Services, Wine & Food

While I’m a big advocate of visiting all of the fantastic local wineries in Langley (all 7 of them), I understand that sometimes there just isn’t the time to go directly to the vineyard. Sometimes you just need to buy a great bottle of wine for a special dinner, unexpected guests, or just because it’s mid-week and you could use a glass of wine. If you can’t get to the vineyard, then I’m happy to report that I’ve found the next best thing!

Cozy Fall Meals

Categories: Shopping & Services, Wine & Food

It’s dark, it’s cold, and it’s damp. It’s definitely Fall in Langley. It’s the perfect time of year to have the fireplace going, to watch a movie, and to cuddle up close to that special someone and watch the rain from the warmth of home. I’m already all warm and cozy just thinking about wrapping up in a blanket in a comfortable chair with a good book. It is a great time of year until the inevitable question pops up: what’s for dinner? I love to cook but sometimes there are nights where I would rather do ANYTHING but have to cook a meal. Luckily I’ve got some ideas for easy meal options to fill you up and keep you wrapped in that blanket for as long as possible.

Tea for Two (or more!)

Categories: Shopping & Services, Wine & Food

It began with a drive to Fort Langley. I don’t know about you, but I know that it is going to be a good day when it begins with a drive to Fort Langley. When I reach the intersection at 88th Avenue and Glover Road I always feel like I’ve entered into some other world, a historic realm, where everything seems to go at a more leisurely and peaceful pace. Sure, you might have to circle once, or twice, to find a parking spot, but when the view is this quaint I don’t mind the extra drive.

The Honour System Amplified – BC Buzz Honey Hut

Categories: Agritourism, Shopping & Services, Wine & Food

I don’t know why I find the honour stand system so enthralling. Perhaps it’s merely a reflection of the way our world currently is that I find myself stunned, and asking in wonder: “you mean there isn’t anyone there?” If you haven’t noticed these stands before now I guarantee that you will start seeing them everywhere. From eggs to flowers, Langley is full of these self-service stands. These stands are a fairly common phenomenon here in Langley, but the BC Buzz Honey Corporation has brought the next level of honour-system sales to Langley. After being so well-received at local farmer’s markets, BC Buzz set up the most adorable self-serve stand you ever did see. It’s cartoony, it’s unexpected, and it’s quite simply genius!
