Categories: Activities & Recreation, Itineraries

As we turn the corner towards the holiday season, we are always excited for the many surprises that this time of season has in store for us. One thing that is less a surprise and more of a given is the weather that we can come to expect from now until the Spring.

Recommendations for how to spend a winter day in Langley, British Columbia

Categories: Activities & Recreation, Agritourism, Itineraries, Wine & Food

Winter is a magical season that, although it often doesn’t seem like it, doesn’t actually begin until the winter solstice on December 22nd. Generally, as soon as Halloween is over, and our pumpkins begin to rot, we change gears and plow head-first into the holiday season.

Recommendations for how to spend an autumn day in Langley, British Columbia

Categories: Activities & Recreation, Itineraries, Shopping & Services, Wine & Food

September 23rd is the fall equinox. I await this day with anticipation every year. It’s the day that I can begin enjoying all things autumn-related, without being judged by my friends. “The PSL comes out way too early”, “It’s not pumpkin season yet”, “Boot weather isn’t for another month”, “Why don’t you wait until Thanksgiving to make pie” are some of the comments they make. For a reason that I cannot fathom, they just don’t understand fall like I do.

Embracing the Holiday Spirit

Categories: Activities & Recreation, Heritage & Culture, Itineraries, Wine & Food

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been excited for Christmas 2014 since December 26, 2013. My husband doesn’t get it. He doesn’t share the same exuberance or excessive enthusiasm that I do for the season. I have always loved Christmas. I love the rituals. I love the festive feeling in the air. I love seeing family. I love the chance of snow. I love the baked goods, and the food, the wine and the music. I love the movies. My list of “must watch” Christmas movies has grown substantially as the years have gone by. It’s almost a challenge to get through them all, but I’m always up for it. But what do I love the most about Christmas you ask? This Community. I love Langley at Christmas time.

The Langley Project – Part 4

Categories: Activities & Recreation, Heritage & Culture, Itineraries, Wine & Food

We are very fortunate that Langley is home to numerous unique and local businesses. You can take a walk through downtown Langley, Fort Langley and pretty much every other community and find great local entrepreneurs. One of Langley’s most recent additions is All of Oils. All of Oils is a new store located on Douglas Crescent in Langley City. They are a specialty store that stocks high quality premium olive oils and balsamic vinegars. I decided to stop in on my way home one day to see what they were all about. The store front is absolutely beautiful. Inside, they have an entire wall of different vinegars and another wall of olive oils. They carry an extremely broad array of flavours, all available to be sampled prior to purchase. My first thought when they asked if I wanted to sample olive oil and vinegar by the spoonful was “yuck”. However, this is nothing like drinking the olive oil I buy from the grocery store so that my food doesn’t stick in the pan. These are very smooth, high-quality vinegars and oils that have truly unique and absolutely delicious flavours. After the first taste my reservations were gone.

The Langley Project – Birthday Edition

Categories: Itineraries, Shopping & Services, Wine & Food

Round three of the Langley Project took place on my birthday. Since it was my birthday I decided that gave me license to make all of my stops consist of decadent culinary samplings (here’s hoping that my personal trainer isn’t reading this). In the late afternoon I found myself at the lovely Milsean Shoppe in Aldergrove.

The Langley Project

As a born and raised Langleyite, I admit that I have been guilty of overlooking how much there actually is to see and do in Langley. When you live here for your entire life it is all too easy to take for granted the beauty and abundance of this community.  My so called “wake-up call” came when I returned home for the summer after attending school at the University of Calgary. As we finally exited Hwy 1 and entered back into Langley, I exclaimed the first thought that came to my mind: it’s so green! I never appreciated how gorgeous the many shades of green are until I spent 8 months in a land of grey, white and brown.  Inspired by my “green” epiphany, I made the decision to spend my summer experiencing Langley like never before.

On Sunday, May 11th we celebrate our mothers. The ones who gave us life, raised us, and continue to give us their unconditional support. We honour them, motherhood, our maternal bonds, and celebrate on this day by treating them to something special.

Spring Break Boredom Busters in Langley

Categories: Activities & Recreation, Agritourism, Heritage & Culture, Itineraries

It’s hard to believe that spring break is just around the corner – especially with the recent snowfall that briefly turned Langley into a winter wonderland. While we are no longer frozen in the Fraser Valley and the chances of getting more fluffy white stuff is slim, there’s still plenty of fun and adventure during the two weeks the kiddies are out of school that doesn’t require a snowsuit.

5 Reasons Why Langley is one of Canada’s Most Romantic Cities

Categories: Activities & Recreation, Itineraries, Shopping & Services, Wine & Food

Have you heard the big news? Langley has been named the eighth most romantic city in all of Canada!  Ooh-la-la!

Two weeks ago, Amazon.ca revealed the ranking, which was also shared in our local newspaper. This is exciting stuff and such a tremendous honour. If the ranking comes as a shock to you — that’s okay. When you’ve spent most of your life living in the same town, it can be easy to take all its quirks and charms for granted.
