A One Stop Wine Shop

While I’m a big advocate of visiting all of the fantastic local wineries in Langley (all 7 of them), I understand that sometimes there just isn’t the time to go directly to the vineyard. Sometimes you just need to buy a great bottle of wine for a special dinner, unexpected guests, or just because it’s mid-week and you could use a glass of wine. If you can’t get to the vineyard, then I’m happy to report that I’ve found the next best thing!

I don’t know anything about wine. To be entirely honest, I’ve only recently begun to develop a liking for it. However, one of the things I do really like is buying local. I like supporting the local economy, I like knowing that the products I’m using come from nearby. Nearby can be relative – if it was made in BC I’m happy, if it was made in Langley I’m even happier. I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Wine Emporium in Murrayville. As I mentioned, I don’t know anything about wine and left to my own devices in a store packed with wines I wouldn’t even know where to begin. However, since I was in the neighborhood I decided to stop in. Wow. If you haven’t been, it is definitely worth visiting. If you like wine, you’re in for a real treat.

The Wine Emporium is a VQA Wine Store. What’s VQA? That was my first question. VQA stands for the Vintners Quality Alliance. It’s a commitment to quality. The wineries have to elect to become a member. A VQA label means that the wine is made from 100% Canadian-grown grapes, the wine was made to the VQA set standards, and the wine was approved by a provincial tasting board. If you know anything about wine I’m sure you’ll love browsing the unique wines that line the store, many of which have extremely creative labeling. If you don’t know anything about wine (like me) the Wine Emporium boasts extremely knowledgeable staff who are very passionate about what they do.  I had an absolute blast being toured around the store and shown all of the unique wines and the various stories that go along with them. You’ll even be able to spot wines from 4 of our Langley wineries: Township 7, Vista D’oro, Chaberton and Backyard Vineyards. The Wine Emporium offers complimentary tastings on Saturdays and Sundays from 2-5pm. I left with a huge smile on my face, and a delicious bottle of BC sparkling wine!

So next time you need a great bottle of BC vino and want to buy local, I suggest you consider stopping by the Wine Emporium!
