30 Remembrance Day Banners Added

Creating, maintaining and keeping a blog interesting takes a particular type of finesses, of which Tourism Langley clearly possesses. There’s always so much going on in Langley (be it City or Township) and now we have a professional venue for letting our community and beyond know what we’re all about, and more importantly, why they should come visit.

For example, back in September 2011, the Downtown Langley Business Association was approached by a very talented photographer by the name of Brian Bury. He had a collection of Veteran portraits that he was compiling with the intentions of producing a book. He suggested that we consider producing banners for Remembrance Day and the DLBA Board of Directors embraced the idea immediately. Not only was it seen as an opportunity for the businesses to honour those who fought for our Country, but it was also viewed as a way to bring attention to our local Legion and all that they do for our community as well.

Forty banners were produced and installed along Douglas Crescent between 204th and 206th Street, around City Hall, on 204th Street between Douglas Crescent and Fraser Highway and Fraser Highway between 204th and 206th Streets. After observing the reaction from our community, we knew we had to expand the program for 2012 in order to cover more area, and to continue honoring our Veterans, Remembrance Day and all that it signifies.

This year we are delighted to add another 30 banners to our existing 40 purchased in 2011. The businesses once again rallied around this project and the end result is a donation to our local Legion in the amount of $2,000.00 (monies from each banner purchased was willingly donated on behalf of the businesses who purchased the banners).
